Traditional French Gites

We have tastefully renovated four ancient farm buildings to provide luxurious accommodation sleeping from two to six adults or a total of twelve when booked as a whole.

The Gites are the former farm buildings belonging to the manor house.

During Le Manoir des Granges history when it was the local vineyard, the family also grew substantial crops of tobacco, hence one of the gites being named the Tobacco Barn, also Walnuts were grown here, as they still are, hence the Walnut Store, the third & fourth Gites are The Roque Terrace namely because of its superb view of Le Roque de St Christophe, and last but not least The Haybarn.

Our concept for the gites has been to create four very different units each
utilising the natural features integral to each cottage.

The gite complex is ideal for either couples,or a group of twelve adults wishing for a little extra privacy.

The standard of accommodation is high, with good quality bathrooms and kitchens. Most of our cottages have both central heating and the option of your own log fire - a must for a cozy night in. Laundry facilities are close to hand and shared amongst the four gites. Each gite has it's own private terrace area with seating and a barbecue.

The swimming pool is particularly attractive and the poolside area has been hewn out of the natural sandstone bedrock with convenient access from all four gites. With the natural sandstone wall on two sides and a large bamboo plantation on a third - leaving ample space to enjoy the wonderfull views over the Roque and surrounding countryside, it is an ideal location to spend a lazy summer afternoon.

This is the main unit sleeping six adults in three bedrooms, each with it's own en suite bedroom,

enjoying a separate fully equipped kitchen, and the beautifully furnished Lounge/dining area features a dining table with a plate glass top covering the original well, which is lit to enhance the feature. Satellite TV & home cinema systems are provided.

The lounge leads directly to the pool terrace, where a table & chairs & sun shade have been provided for alfresco dining. The terrace enjoys wonderful views of the valley opposite, and Le Roque de St Christophe. The Tobacco Barn has been furnished tastefully with English & French Antiques.

The Haybarn One of our spacious two person units, which provides generous accommodation for one couple. This unit overlooks the swimming pool, which is reached by a path leading to the lower level where the pool is situated. The Haybarn enjoys a very large private terraced area, again providing plenty of space for outdoor barbequing & dining. The accommodation consists of a very pleasant double bedroom with views down the valley, a bathroom en suite, a lounge featuring many natural stone features & oak beams in its lofty ceiling, The beautifully furnished lounge also has a pretty corner fireplace with a wood burning stove for those cooler evenings in the Autumn & Spring. Satellite TV & home cinema systems are provided. The kitchen is well equipped with fan oven, gas hob, microwave, fridge & dishwasher.

The Walnut Store

The Walnut Store The Walnut Store is situated in the front courtyard, enjoying a private patio area with barbeque, dining table & chairs for those alfresco dinners & lunches. It enjoys a very pretty lounge, comfortably furnished with a mix of English & French antiques, Satellite TV & home cinema systems are provided.     The lounge has a fireplace & wood burning stove, for the cooler evenings and a lovely cool interior to protect you in those long summer days with lots of natural stone & terracotta in this unit. The kitchen is equipped with fan oven, microwave, gas hob and fridge. The bedroom, sleeping two, is a lovely sunny room with a large en suite bathroom, with shower WC & basin. A patio door leads directly to the swimming pool. This gite has been carefully thought out to provide level access throughout for the assisted handicapped.

 

Le Roc Terrace

Le Roque terrace is situated on the front of the complex facing the river Vesere & Le Roque de St Christophe, again sleeping two, it enjoys a Lounge, dining Kitchen area all with the beautiful outlook, through the three patio doors leading to the raised wooden decking. The lounge is particularly attractive with it's stone fireplace and comfortable furnishings. It has three patio doors leading to a wooden decking for dining alfresco and overlooks Le Roque, also the terrace leads directly to the swimming pool.

The kitchen is equipped with a fan oven, microwave, refrigerator and gas hob. Off the lounge, past the fitted wardrobes a small corridor leads to the pretty bedroom equipped with electrically operated bed giving individual posture support. Off the bedroom is a large bathroom (wet room) with shower WC & basin.

This gite has been carefully thought out to provide level access throughout for the assisted handicapped.

Summary

Most of our gites are centrally heated for those out of season visits, and all enjoy the same level of fixtures and furnishings as the Manor House. The gites are separated from the main house by a high stone wall with the original Tobacco barn doors, which can be opened to combine the gites with the manor house for large groups of up to 24.

Our cottages here at Le Manoir des Granges are a carefully restored, important, set of traditional farm buildings, located adjacent to the manor house. The complex comprises of four units, three of which can accommodate two people, the fourth unit comfortably accommodates six.

During the process of renovating these beautiful buildings, dating from the turn of the 19th century, we made a conscious effort to retain all the natural Perigordian features such as ancient Oak beams and local stone so as to offer accommodation which a great deal of individual character.

 

Large Groups

Although the gites themselves offer primarily cozy intimate accommodation, they can be booked as a whole to provide space for up to twelve. Their position, in convenient reach of the manor house, allows it to be booked in addition to offer accommodation for groups of up to 24 - ideal for large extended families or friends in search of independent living with loved ones close by.

We are happy to make families with children welcome and there are many family-friendly attractions in our lovely part of the Dordogne for all to enjoy.
